Glimepiride 2mg + Metformin Hydrochloride(SR) 500mg
Glimepiride 2mg + Metformin Hydrochloride(SR) 500mg has been a widely used combination drug to treat type 2 diabetes. Combining it as a biguanide and sulphonylurea is a step taken in this formulation to benefit the diabetic patient whose condition cannot be effectively controlled with diet and exercise alone.
Components and Mechanism of Action
1.Glimepiride (2 mg):
Type: Sulfonylurea.
Mechanism: Glimepiride helps reduce blood glucose levels by inducing the pancreas to release more insulin. Enhancing glucose absorption, also makes peripheral tissues more sensitive to insulin.
Uses: It is primarily used to help individuals with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar levels.
2.Metformin Hydrochloride (SR) (500 mg):
Type: Biguanide.
Mechanism of action: Metformin increases peripheral tissue sensitivity to insulin, decreases glucose absorption in the intestines, and reduces hepatic glucose production. The sustained-release formulation causes fewer gastrointestinal side effects while providing steadier blood sugar control.
Uses: Typically for patients with type 2 diabetes, and more often in those who have an overabundance of body weight or high levels of insulin resistance.
